Ali Carter battled to a 4-2 victory over David Grace to book a place in the final stages of the BetVictor Scottish Open in Edinburgh next month.
Four-time ranking event winner Carter was pushed hard by Grace but eventually did enough to secure his progress to the Scottish capital. Breaks of 103, 78 and 84 gave Carter a 3-1 lead, his opponent taking the third frame of a high quality contest with a run of 117.
Frame five came down to a respotted black and Grace potted it to keep his hopes alive at 3-2. And he held a lead of 47-22 in the sixth, only for Carter to clear with 37 to seal the result.
Former World Champion Ken Doherty recovered from the loss of the opening two frames to beat Dominic Dale 4-2. A break of 111 put Dale 2-0 ahead, before Irishman Doherty won four in a row with top runs of 57, 88 and 66.
Former English Open champion Liang Wenbo top scored with 81, 119 and 89 in a 4-2 defeat of Oliver Lines while former Rookie of the Year Pang Junxu saw off Julien Leclercq 4-1 with a top break of 84.
