Tony Knowles battled to a 4-3 win over Ryan Roberts in round two of Q School event three, to keep alive his hopes of a World Snooker Tour card.
The former world number two will take on Sean O’Sullivan in round three on Friday, needing four more wins to earn one of the six tour cards available in the third and last 2021 Q School event.
Knowles beat Garry Coulson 4-0 in round one but had a much stiffer test against Roberts. The 65-year-old veteran took the opening frame with a break of 51, then lost three of the next four. A run of 35 helped Knowles take frame six for 3-3, then he got the better of a 41-minute decider on the colours.
O’Sullivan top scored with 80 in a 4-1 win over Antoni Kowalski.
Duane Jones made a 128 in a 4-1 defeat of Jamie Jones. Luke Simmonds came from 2-0 down to beat Brandon Sargeant 4-3 with a top run of 103, while tour stalwart Paul Davison made a 62 in a 4-0 defeat of Robert Read.
