Anthony McGill and Scott Donaldson earned places in the final stages of the BetVictor Scottish Open by winning their qualifying matches in Cannock on Tuesday.
The event will be held at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh for the first time, running from November 28 to December 4. Glasgow’s McGill beat Wu Yize 4-1 with a top break of 63 while Perth’s Donaldson saw off Louis Heathcote 4-2 thanks to runs of 50, 59, 60 and 101.
Ding Junhui, looking to climb back up the rankings from his current position of 36th, showed his quality in a 4-1 defeat of Elliot Slessor, compiling breaks of 68, 125, 120 and 51.
Xu Si edged out David Gilbert 4-3 in a match which featured a century and five more breaks over 60. China’s Xu knocked in runs of 73, 117, 70 and 61.
