Snooker’s world number two Judd Trump succumbed to a comprehensive 11-1 defeat against Jayson Shaw at the US Open 9-ball in Atlantic City.
Trump is following in the footsteps fellow snooker legends Ronnie O’Sullivan, Steve Davis, Jimmy White and Alex Higgins in switching cue sport codes and trying his hand at 9-ball pool, making his competitive debut this week.
There were comfortable wins in round one and two for Trump, against relatively unknown opposition. However, today’s heavy defeat against Mosconi Cup star Shaw serves as a reminder that he has plenty to learn in the discipline.
Shaw, who won the US Open in 2017, was very impressive in his win and progresses to the next stage of the winner’s section. With a double elimination format in operation, not all hope is lost for Trump. He will return tomorrow in the loser’s half of the draw.
